Mana

Mana is a small pilgrim village that is located in the state of Uttarakhand. The village is present near the religious site of Badrinath. The village has the distinction of being the last settlement on the road to the country of Tibet. It is situated at a height of around 3219 meters.

The village has the distinction of being the last settlement on the road to the country of Tibet. It is situated at a height of around 3219 meters. The village is on the banks of the River Saraswati. The entire region is surrounded by hills and one can see many small streams nearby as well.

This is a perfect place for trekking and there are many trekking spots that are located here. The village of Mana can be visited as day trip from Badrinath. There is a waterfall called the Vasundara Falls that is located nearby and this is also a good place to see while travelling to the village of Mana.

There is small passage called the Bhim Pul that is located here and the River Sarawasti plunges headlong into the path and this is a sight to behold. The local population of the village lives in small cottages that are decorated and carved exquisitely.

One can visit the temple of Mata Murti that is located near the town and the temple holds an annual fair, visiting which can be an interesting experience.

  Best Season / Best Time to Visit Mana


The climatic conditions in the village are mild throughout the year and thus the village is a good place to visit except during the monsoon season. The temperate summers make it an ideal destination to escape the mainland heat. Winters can be cold with temperatures dropping to levels below the freezing point. Heavy protective winter clothing is a must for those who are travelling to Mana in winter.

The summer season is from the month of March to June. The summer temperatures are always moderate and they average around 18°C mark. Nights can be chilly as the temperatures fall after sunset. The place gets low levels of rainfall during the monsoon season. The monsoon season is from July to October.

The temperatures are around the 15°C mark during this period. It is possible to visit the place even during the monsoon season. The winter months in the village of Mana are harsh and the mercury can drop down below the freezing point regularly. The maximum temperature during the winter season is around 8°C. Day temperatures average around 5°C during the winter months. Visiting during the winter season is possible provided all the precautions are taken.

Neelkanth

Neelkanth Peak is at a height of around 6,597 m above sea level and is known as the 'Queen of Gharwal'. The shrine of Badrinath can be seen from this peak.

Tapt Kund

Tapt Kund, a natural spring, is believed to be the dwelling place of Lord Agni. It is a sacred kund and is visited by many travellers throughout the year.
 

Mata Murti Temple

The Mata Murti Temple is dedicated to the mother of Lord Narayan. According to folklore, Mata Murti requested Lord Vishnu to take birth as her son. Lord Vishnu granted her this wish by taking birth in the form of a twin, Nar and Narayan. Many tourists visit this temple during the annual fair, held in the month of August.
