Over the centuries the great Indian culture has come to be renowned all over the globe for its religious and cultural accord. This feeling of harmony is the binding thread of India’s social patchwork. Piran Kaliyar, also known as Kaliyar Sharif, presents an apt instance of this. At Piran Kaliyar the Sufi saint Allauddin Ali Ahmad Sabir also known as Sabir Kaliyari lies in peace in his Dargaah. The 13th century priest was the successor of the great Sufi poet and saint Hazrat Baba Farid of the Chishti order. It takes not more than half an hour to reach Kaliyar village, to visit the Dargaah.

The tomb of the saint was built by Ibrahim Lodhi, a ruler of Delhi. The structure typifies the Islamic architecture with its carved grillwork.

During the months of May-June, a 15-day Urs is celebrated at the Dargaah which has by now gained the distiction of being a symbol of national integration and harmony. People belonging to all religions, castes and creeds turn in multitudes at the Dargaah. The Urs marks the death anniversary of Saint Sabir Kaliyari. After the initial religious rituals, the Urs takes on a festive mood with quawwalis and mushairas becoming the order of the day.

Piran Kaliyar is a wonderful symbol of unity. Ibrahim Loidhi built the the tomb in 16th century A.D. The tomb compound contains the graves of his numerous followers. The Urs very popular among people - Muslims and Hindus alike.


Rail: The nearest rail head is Roorkee (10kilometers) connecting with Delhi, Agra, Howrah, Allahabad, Amritsar, Lucknow and many more.
Road: Connected with all major cities.
Air: The nearest airport is Jolly Grant, Dehradun, (161 kilometers) on highway.
