Home to several endangered species like bharal or blue sheep, black bear, brown bear, Himalayan Monal, Himalayan snowcock, Himalayan thar, musk deer and snow leopard. To best enjoy the immaculate natural beauty of the Gangotri National Park is from April to October.
What To Do
The trek to Gaumukh glacier from Gangotri is said to be one of the most memorable and it can be done in a day. But permits are required to enter the park and access is limited to 150 people per day. The permit can be obtained from the permit office above the bus stand at Gangotri, or from the District magistrate's office in Uttarkashi. If you are a professional trekker, you can also trek to the gorgeous Tapovan meadow, around 6 km from Gaumukh but please carry camping gear.
Listen to the wonderful symphony in the morning while strolling through the lush green forests. If you are you might be able to spot rare species like the Himalayan Snowcock or the majestic snow leopard in their natural habitat.
How to reach
The nearest airport from Gangotri is Jolly Grant, which is located just 26 km from Rishikesh. From the airport, you can take the road to reach Gangotri.
