Chamoli, the abode of Gods, reputed for its shrines and temples, birth place of ‘Chipko Movement ‘ with its strategic significance is one of the hill districts of Uttarakhand. Chamoli has proved itself to be the most spectacular in its natural assets; be it maintaining the scenery, valley aspects, water edges, floristic varieties, dramatic landform or the climatic cardinalities.
Geography of Chamoli
Chamoli, carved as a seperate revenue district in 1960 out of the erstwhile Garhwal district, lies in the Central Himalayan region and constitutes a part of the celebrated ‘Kedar Kshetra’. The District Chamoli is surrounded by Uttarkashi in the North-West, Pithoragarh in South-West,Almora in South East,Rudraprayag in South-West and Tehri Grahwal in West. The geographical area of the District is around 7520 sq.kms.
