A fast developing centre for skiing and other winter sports, Munsiyari is a fairly big & developed Himalayan township at an altitude of 2,298 m. Inhabited by the Shauka tribes from time immemorial, it lies on the trade route to Tibet.

Best Season / Best Time to Visit Munsiyari
The hill station has a pleasant climate for many months of the year. However it is advisable to avoid visiting during the monsoon season as the conditions can be wet and activities such as trekking will not be possible. Summers are comfortable for the most part. Winters are cold and woolens are required while travelling during this season. The best time to visit the place is from March – June and September and October.
The summer season is during the months from March to June. The maximum temperature that you can expect during the summer is around 27°C. The lowest temperature that is experienced during the winter season is around 7°C. Light winter clothing is essential during this period.
The monsoon season is from July to September and during this time most activities are suspended due to the heavy rains. Rainfall is highest in the month of August. During the month of October and November the conditions are pleasant and temperate.
The winter season can be cold in the town and the temperatures can be expected to plummet to around -3°C. The barometer rises up to a maximum of 15°C during the winter months.
Munsiyari is ideally located for the experience of high altitude trekking to various glaciers and it's the base camp for Nanda Devi.
There are long treks in the surrounding countryside; following the treks are past birch, walnut, juniper and rhododendron trees. There are a number of bugyals, the rolling lush green high altitude meadows.

Milam glacier: From Munsiyari the trek to Milam is mostly along the Gori Ganga River. En route, Bugdiyar to Rilkot is a thickly forested area from where the land opens into the Gori Ganga valley. After crossing the Gori Ganga River and below Burfu village, one gets an uninterrupted view of Nanda Devi and Hardeol peaks right up to Milam Glacier. The Milam Glacier summit at 3553 m is the nodal point for different high grade routes and peaks. The main peaks are Hardeol (7151 m), Burphudhura (6148 m) and Kalabulanddhura (6215 m).
Pithoragarh has an airstrip, Naini Saini. But it's not a regular airport.
