The holy city is nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas and is also known as the yoga capital of the world. Apart from temples and ashrams, Rishikesh is also a popular white-water rafting centre, backpacker hang-out, and gateway to treks in the Himalayas.

A popular temple dedicated to Goddess Durga, it is one of the 52 Shakti Peethas in Uttarakhand. While devotees flock here throughout the year, the temple perched on the Kunjapuri peak offers a stunning view of the snow-capped ranges of the Himalayas like Swargarohini, Gangotri, Bandarpunch and Chaukhamba, and of the valley of the River Bhagirathi.
